I made the decision to try every cuisine in the world just a week ago, and so when my friend and I decided to meet in Seven Dials Market for food and I saw they had a Syrian place- and one with several vegetarian options no less- I knew I had to try it.
Arnabeet sits on the top floor of Seven Dials market. Their website explains their recipes come from Aleppo and other Syrian cities and was created to break boundaries and stereotypes.
Arnabeet means ‘cauliflower’ in Arabic, and the vegetable features heavily on the menu.
So, true to form, I got the Cauliflower Wrap, which featured fried cauliflower, some really gorgeous tahini, pomegranate seeds, and salad, in a soft pillowy wrap. And then, because I’m Irish and never turn down an opportunity for potatoes, I got a side of Batata Harra.
The Batata Harra were deliciously fried and the garlic really came through the other spices (which is a win for me).
To be honest, I think I made a mistake double-carbing, as I did feel uncomfortably full the rest of the evening, but in terms of flavour, I made an incredible choice.
I would definitely try and recreate this dish at home, as even though the ingredients and recipe is simple, the results were delicious.
I’d fully recommend checking Arnabeet out if you can!
Based on this meal alone, I would rate Syrian food highly for vegetarians, and definitely would try it again.
I also need the recipe for their tahini as I want to smother it on everything.
Syrian cuisine, ticked!
